- Jan Sariusz Zamoyski was born on 19th March 1542 in the countryside called Skokówka near Zamość. He was the son of Stanisław - the starost of Bełk. J. S. Zamoyski was a man of a noble birth.
- After a few years’ education in Krasnystaw, he left to study at Parisian College Royal in Sorbona. Then our patron attended a famous Calvinist School of Jan Strum in Strasburg. Next he learnt at University in Padwa, where he got his PhD degree in Law and became a rector. Without a doubt – Zamoyski was one of the most educated Polishmen in the XVI century.
- Knowledge was the priority for him, he always emphasized its value: "I sacrifice all of me to science. When I was young it was science that was my element, it was my sweetness when I was old. It was my consolation during facing adversities, the guide and master on a senatorial chair.”
- He together with Stefan Batory strived for establishing a new University in Cracow similar to Parisian Royal College. It did not succeed at the beginning, but first in 1589 in Zamość there was established a high school under the management of a famous poet – Sebastian Klonowic and six years later Zamoyski Academy came into being.
- He gathered rare Greek, Latin, Hebrew and Armenian manuscripts which were imported with a big cost from distant Turkey, Italy and Greece.
- Zamość which was set up in a former village Skokówka was a real pride for Zamoyski. A big city was built in an Italian Renaissance style by a famous architect Bernardo Morano from Padwa. Zamoyski was also Jan Kochanowski’s friend. He strived tor the multiplication of the goods which belonged to Jan from Czarnolas, and due to his backing, Batory appointed the poet the voivode governor of Sandomierz.
